Abstract
The effects of ammonia treatment on changes of the microstructure of wood cell wall in relation to its sensibility for enzymatic saccharification were investigated by chemical analysis and microscopic observation. As the results of chemical analysis, the sensibility of ammonia-treated woody biomass for enzymatic sccharification is related to the content of xylose, the content of acetic acid and the S/V ratio. Microscopic observation also demonstrates that the changes on xylan structure by ammonia treatment play an important role for the sensitivity of the enzymatic sarcharification
