Abstract

This research aims to compose a provisional art learning curriculum for students from the elementary to high school education based on the concept of Universal Design (UD). Such curriculum would improve students’ creativity and consideration towards different individuals, local community and environment, leading to development of higher practical skills such as problem-finding and solving. To create frameworks for learning material composition of a long-term curriculum, I designed a model for a “provisional UD learning curriculum” for elementary and secondary schools using the action research process. In this model, the concept of UD was reshaped as gentleness consisting of a cyclic process: “think–find–express–provide”. Implementation of the model clarified viewpoints of the students in the field of design, as well as characteristics and tendencies at each development stage.
