Description
Females experience a sense of climacterium (an awareness of "fu shi me"), a turning point in life before or after their menopause. Forty-five % of aged females became aware of physical and psychological changes at the same time as their menopause (group B), 22% of them 3 years or more before menopause (group A), and 32% of them 3 years or more after menopause (group C). In the present study, we have observed blood vitamin concentration related to an awareness of "Fu shi me" on 103 adult females (40-60 years of age) who had been received physical checkup at the Health Center in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo. Concentrations of vitamin B_1, B_2, and C, in blood were relatively low in females of group A, while those of vitamin E were significantly low. Vitamin B_6 concentration in blood were significantly high in famales of group C. It would be considered that marginal vitamin B_1 deficiency was more frequently found in females who experienced an awareness of "fu shi me" 3 years or more before menopause (group A). Females who experienced an awareness of "fu shi me" 3 years or more after menopause (group C) were found in good nutritional condition.
