抄録

Methylation of γ-tocopherol to α-tocopherol by tocopherol methyltransferase contained in spinach chloroplast was studied. The optimum pH of this reac-tion was in weakly alkaline range. Several metal ions such as Mg^<2+>, Zn^<2+>, Ca^<2+> promoted the reaction. Any water-soluble organic solvent as ethanol enhanced the reaction rate. No α-tocopherol formation was observed when β-or γ-tocopherol was used as substrate.
