Abstract

Since 2002, JICA-Net has been a distance technical cooperation program promoted by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which connects around 90 satellite offices located in mainly developing countries. It has been primarily used for internal meetings; however, distance seminars are being delivered using distance learning methods. In order to publish those learning materials for use internationally, an online library of JICA-Net has been created. Its main goal is to realize the self-explanation and international circulation of its information resources by adopting 1) DSpace based on the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) reference model and 2) Dublin Core for taking part in Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) activities. In addition, a JICA-Net pilot test was carried out to investigate further possibilities of distance technical cooperation. As a result, the distance technical cooperation scheme has been classified into 24 patterns as a guideline, and its possibility was discussed possibilities are discussed in this study.
