Description

Single-blade centrifugal pumps are widely used as a sewage pump. However, the single-blade centrifugal impeller is acted on a large radial thrust during pump operation because the impeller is geometrically asymmetric. The impeller without a front shroud is called an open-type impeller, and the impeller with the front shroud is called a closed-type impeller. In the single-blade centrifugal impeller, effect of the front shroud about the radial thrust is not clear. This study investigated the performance characteristic and radial thrust of an open-type centrifugal pump with single-blade. As a result, change of a total head is affected by a static pressure on discharge side of a volute casing. The radial thrust at a small flow rate is greatest value when the impeller phase angle is near 180°. The radial thrust at a large flow rate is greatest value when the impeller phase angle is near 0°. The behavior of the radial thrust is affected by the static pressure.
