Description
Two types of hybrid magnetic bearings, which have high efficiency and good dynamic response, for artificial heart have been developed. The bearings have core pieces and permanent magnets to produce bias magnetic flux. The permanent magnets are set between the core pieces at opposite location. The diameter and thickness of the magnetic bearings are 60mm and 10mm, respectively. Three dimensional magnetic field analysis based on the finite element method was performed to design the magnetic bearings. Produced force of the developed magnetic bearings was more than 4 N at the center position and good levitation performance of the bearings was confirmed.
