Abstract
The present study is a part of development studies of numerical tools for free surface flow and multi-phase flow problems in pumping stations. The numerical method is SP-VOF (Simplified Piecewise Linear Interface Calculation and Volume of Fluid). It is necessary to estimate bubble entrainment from free surface to pump site in order to design high performance pumping plants. Most bubble entrainment occurs at a junction of open and closed channels, where agitated free surface contacts with structure wall. Small-scale tests of air entrainment at a junction were calculated. The critical velocity for incipient air entrainment due to break wave was well calculated.
