Description

In the on shore type of relatively small capacity of OTEC system, the seawater intake facility cost can be dominant initial cost. Therefore, to minimize the required seawater flow rates, specially deep seawater flow rate, is very important in the system. By using a multi-stage Rankine cycle for the cascase utilization of the seawaters, the required seawater flow rates reduction had been considered. This study shows the effect of the number of transfer unit of the evaporator and the condenser on the required heat source flow rate as well as the staging effect. And in case the number of transfer unit of the condenser is higher than that of the evaporator, the required deep seawater flow rate can be reduced relatively.
