Description

The Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) promises high plant efficiency, that utilizes a wide variety of fuels, in wide rage application from small to large scale. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, LTD. (MHI) has been developing SOFC for advanced high-efficiency utility power stations. In 2004, MHI was commissioned a Japanese national project "Development of the SOFC-Micro Gas Turbine (MGT) Combined Cycle System with Tubular Type Cell Stack" by New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). The target of its performance is 200kW class electricity power output and 50% of the efficiency. In this project, MHI has improved the components and the control technology for the combined cycle system, that is, improvement of cell stacks and the SOFC module, verification of pressurized operation and control of SOFC system. Especially, MGT of main component is remodeled in combustor and control system based on in-house conventional MGT, and demonstrated in the operation test with simulated SOFC. In 2006, MHI succeeded in operating the SOFC sub-module -MGT combined cycle system to verify the system control for the 200kW system, for the first time in Japan. This 200kW system will be manufactured and operated in 2007. This paper summarizes the development of MGT for SOFC combined cycle system.
