Abstract
In longitudinal collision between bars and lateral collision between a bar and a beam, parameters that affect collision phenomena differ. For longitudinal collision between both-ends-free bars, the ratio of the characteristic impedances and ratio of the stress wave propagation times of the two bars are the main parameters. For collision between a both-ends-free bar and a both-ends-supported beam, the mass ratio, the first-mode natural-frequency ratio, and the collision position are the main parameters. In this report, the effect of these parameters on the kinetic characteristics is studied theoretically and experimentally using the coefficient of restitution.
