Working fluids and heat transfer fluids used in energy systems such as refrigerating plants and heat pumps cannot avoid concentration changes due to contamination with lubricating oils, water or other impurities. In the case of aqueous solutions of glycols, which are used as antifreeze heat-transfer media, the change in concentration means a large change in viscosity, since the viscosity of glycol is significantly higher than that of water. In the present study, the dependencies of viscosity on concentration and on temperature were experimentally investigated for aqueous solutions of ethylenglycol and of propyleneglycol. Ubbelohde viscometers were used in the range of concentration from 40 to 100 wt% and of temperature from 253 to 313 K.
