Abstract
“Underground Gasification of Coal”is a process for bringing to the surface as gcs the useful ingredients of coal, while leaving the unwanted material behind in the seam.
In laboratory the author conducted many basic experiments in underground gasification of coal. In this report, a first experiment is described.
The author tried to gasify a small coal block, which was made artificially, by using only air. This preliminary experiment showed the following conclusions:
1. It is difficult to get the desirable gas. The amount of gas produced, and amount of coal gasified are small.
2. The volumetric amount of hydrogen and CmHn, in gas produced are very small, and also calorific value of it very small. It is clear that, a lot of heat lost occurrs in the process of underground gasification of coal.
3. it is necessary to use oxygen for getting a lot of gas of the high calorific value. The author will describe in next repors on the basic study of gasification of coal by using oxygen.
