Abstract
The function of Mining Division of Atomic Fuel Corporation is to gain the mining rights and to conduct investigation regarding the feasibilities of the industrial scale ore extraction by prospecting drifts on the base of the surface conditions.<BR>The Corporation has, at present, no mines actually extracting the are but is examining various mining methods on experimental bases. It is hoped that these experiments will lead to the actual mining of the are of the sedimental deposit at Ningyô-tôge.<BR>The prime uranium mineral of this deposit is ningyoite locating in unoxidized are zone which is in matrix out of pebble in conglomerate. This mineral can easily be washed for the concentration.<BR>Room-and-pillar mining method and longwall mining method using steel props and caps, which are normally in use in coal mines have been applied to the stoping of weak conglomerate rocks.<BR>In order to reduce the mining cost, hydraulic mining methods have been tried. For processing low grade ores, a washing plant with capacity of 30 tons of are per day has been in operation at Ningyô-tôge.
