Abstract

The dissolutions of sulfide minerals in aqueous solutions which are currentlyavailable in the geochemical prospecting were studied with the view of their chemical weathering by H and free oxygen. Various combination of the sulfide minerals were tried to find their characteristics which directly affect the redox potentials and the dissolutions.
The Eh and pH values were measured in solutions containing the samples and their assumed oxidation productions were analysed: Fe3+, Fe2+, Zn2+, Pb2+ and SO42- from each of pyrite, pyrrohotite, suphalerite and galena.
Decreasing the pH value in solution, the Eh value and the dissolution of the samples were increased significantly and the ratio S/Me of the remaining solid phase were diminished. And then, the Eh correlated with the concentration of the metal ions (relative coefficient 0.94 for pyrite, and 0.92 for suphalerite). The experimental equation is Eh=0.701-0.036 pH volt (relative coefficient 0.82) for pyrite as shown in the Eh-pH diagram.
