As the result of the energetic prospecting, many promising uranium deposits were discovered in sedimentary rocks in so-alled “massif” regions.
As to the syngenetic type, the uranium mineralization is observed in the black shale beds of Paleozoic age related with the bedded manganese deposits. These deposits are considered as the potential resources at present.
In Japan the most important deposits, such as Ningyô-tôge deposits, Oguni and Kanamaru deposits, Okutango deposits and Tônôdeposits, are those of ground water type. It is believed that the uranium in the ground water, derived from graninic rocks, was precipitated under the reducing condition, after the deposition of theconglomerate, the sandstone and the mudstone of Neogene Tertiary age. Considering the ages of these are deposits and the environments of deposition of their host rocks, it can be said that the wide areas with the sedimentary rocks of the same type remain unexplored.
The studies of characteristicsof the ores of Ningyô-tôge prove that they have good quality andtheir treatment is very easy, in spite of its relatively low grade in comparison with forreign ores.
