The main geological components of the Yanahara mine area are the slate and pyroclastic sediments of Permian Kichigahara sub-group, the Yanahara intrusives which intrued in the folded structures of the former sediments, some plutonic intrusives and effusive rhyolites of later stages. The sediments of the Kichigahara sub-group showed distinct folding structures along the axis of trending NNW to SSE, and the Yanahara intrusives formed phacolithic intrusion to the structures.
Many are deposits are known in the mining area ot this mine, and they consist mainly of massive pyrite ores of extremely high grade, with which some pyrrhotites are associated in some deposits. In the western satellitic deposits, copper is the important accessories to the pyrite ores.
The characteristic geological features of this deposits are controlled by thefolding of the Premian sediments. Namely, deposits occur in the synclinal or overturned-folded portions of these sediments. And also, the Yanahara intrusives are thought to have important role for the localization of ores.
