抄録

The stress around a shaft bottom space has been investigated by means of three-dimensional photoelastic experiments, in which great efforts have been made in the production of models, the application of a uniform load to models and the correction for the experimental values of indeterminate stresses due to the fact that the Poisson's number of the material of models was different from that of the ground.<BR>The results obtained show that there appear tensile stress on the roof of a shaft bottom space and compressive stress on the side walls, though they are not great, and that, even if fracture takes place in these parts, it may not extend farther.<BR>Taking account of these results as well as the results of investigation previously published, it is discussed how to support the shaft bottom space.
