The effect of temperature as a parameter in flotation was studied on the activation of sphalerite with cupric ion by measuring the copper abstraction in the temperature range of 20°C-50°C, and the results were discussed from the kinetic standpoint.<BR>The reaction of cupric ion with sphalerite proceeds in two stages of different: mechanisms. The initial stage is rapid and ends within few minutes, then the film of surface reaction product has been formed to be a certain thickness. In the succeeding stage, the reaction follows a parabolic rate law.<BR>The plots of parabolic rate constants k vs. 11T were found to be linear, with an energy term of 13.8kcal/mole (20°C-50°C). The value of activation energy lies within the range usually associated with “Structuresensitive” diffusion.
