Toho Titanium Co., Ltd.was established in 1953 and started producing titanium sponge at Chigasaki City in 1954 with a production capacity of 240 tons per year.At present, its production capacity is 10, 800 tons per year.Toho's titanium sponge is produced by the modified Kroll Process.<BR>In 1960, a consumable electrode vacuum arc remelting furnace was installed.At present, the production capacity of titanium ingot is 7, 800 tons per year.<BR>In 1962, Toho started producing ferrotitanium mother alloy by a high frequency induction furnace. At present, its capacity is 4, 200 tons per year.<BR>In addition to these titanium metals, Toho produces titanium trichioride catalyst for polypropylene production and high purity titanium oxide for the electroceramics industry, etc.<BR>Toho's production facilities have been essentially designed and operated on the basis to meet the requirements of the severe quality control, to reduce the energy consumption, to improve the productivity and etc.<BR>The development and improvement of production of the titanium metals during recent about 10 years were reviewed in this paper.
