Description

THIS PAPER IS A positivistic study concerning the area of overlap between sociology of religion and feminist studies. The target of study is one of the GLA groups called "The Light of El Rante." The topic of study is Japanese motherhood (as a socio-cultural construction). In the first part I will look back on how Japanese motherhood has come to be regarded within feminist studies as a problem of socio-cultural construction. In the second part I will explain the basic features of GLA groups, mainly focusing on their scientific-religious world view and inner-oriented other-worldly religiosity, which are the main characteristics of their teaching. In part three I will explain the basic Naikan therapy, mainly focusing on its religious origin, the importance of the mother-child relationship, and the large field of its applications. In part four I will explain the concept of "the Reflection of Mother" in the large and small seminars of "The Light of El Rante," mainly focusing on the process of "natural/denial→hatred→thanks." In part five we will see that this group is very sensitive toward "dominance under the name of love," which is the negative aspect of Japanese motherhood. In part six we will analyze the position of this group within the "gender revolution" in Japanese society.
