This paper presents the numerical simulation of unstable flow in the Coanda effect. The unstable phenomenon is governed by Reynolds number, the nozzle height of the jet, h, and the boundary conditions around the jet exit. In this paper, the changing phenomenon of two-dimensional jet direction is found numerically in both cases with and without a vertical wall on the jet exit and is compared with the experimental results. The numerical calculation was carried out by using the finite-difference method for the conditions of unstable phenomenon, that is, 1.0×(10)^4≲Re≲2.5×(10)^4 and 0.145≲h/D≲0.165. It is found that a large vortex exists upon the jet at the initial stage of jet injection and the behavior of it has an influence on the unstable phenomenon.
