説明

Vortex Generators (VGs) on airplane wings are devices designed to prevent or delay flow separation by generating vortexes and mixing a flow. Some of them are necessary only in take-off and landing because a flow on a wing surface separates. However, this type of VGs has an adverse effect in steady cruise conditions because they generate drag. Therefore, a new VG concept has been proposed, where the VGs autonomously transform their position between an upright vortex-generating position in take-off and landing and a flat drag-reducing position in steady cruise conditions by using shape memory alloy (SMA) and approximately 70℃ difference in ambient temperature between the ground and the cruise altitude. In this paper, an aerodynamic force applied to the SVG during a flight is calculated by a commercial CFD program and deformability of the SVG due to the aerodynamic force is investigated. The SVG composed of two-way SMA can transform between the two positions. While, for the SVG composed of one-way SMA, the aerodynamic force is too weak to lie down, but it can move to the drag reducing position, not flat, by reducing the stiffness of the SVG.
