Description
A rugby ball in the flow begins to rotate of itself on its short axis. It has become clear that auto-rotation of the rugby ball was caused by a negative lift incline. After that, an oval ball which had four grooves is put into wind tunnel test for measurement of aerodynamic forces and oil flow visualization, and then is compared with the properties of lift and drag of rugby ball. The result shows that the lift property of the oval ball has a periodical variation pattern and its pattern is just like combination of pulse shape, and that the sign of lift property depends on the retreat of separation line. However, the lift variation of rugby ball is quite complicated in comparison with the oval ball, and therefore something except grooves (seems) must be concerned deeply in order to explain the complicated lift property of rugby ball.
