Abstract
Running pantograph undergoes upward lift force due to its aerodynamic characteristics. As the running velocity increases, the lift force tends to increase, and then the contact force between pantograph and overhead contact catenary increases. In order to suppress such a flow induced contact force fluctuation, active control technique is applied to pantograph. An air cylinder that is equipped with servo valve for the future demand of high-speed response is utilized as an actuator for active control. To investigate the performance of active controlled pantograph and to evaluate suppression of contact force fluctuation, the wind tunnel test was carried out. The results of the test indicate that the active controlled pantograph is quite effective for suppression of flow induced contact force fluctuation.
