Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the condition of low rent private housing in Tokyo Metropolitan Wards using various data sources and to examine the possibility of socializing private rented housing. Results showed: (1)The quality of wooden rented houses were particularly poor, (2) there was a high percentage of single and aged tenants, (3)we described distribution maps of low rented housing, (4)non-market houses were of low quality but they played an important role for poor people, (5)owners had management problems because of their aging and, there were some issues in redeveloping low rent housing to affordable housing.
