Abstract
Japanese traditional houses hold the characteristic features: façades are strongly connected to the interior space by traditional fittings, koshi or oodo etc. This study aims to discuss conformance between exterior preservation and interior improvement in the conservation of traditional houses based on the surveys in four preservation districts for the groups of historic buildings in Japan where model exterior preservation projects are implemented and the specific examples are extracted.
