Description

In the course of our systematic investigation of the biologically active substances of inedible mushrooms, we studied the chemical constituents of five Ascomycetous fungi. In the present study, we isolated four novel aromatic compounds (1〜4) and three novel azaphilones (5〜7) from Daldinia concentrica, sixteen new cytochalasins (18〜33) from Daldinia vernicosa, two novel azaphilones (36〜37) from Entonaema splendens, a novel aromatic compound (40) from Hypoxylon truncatum, and a novel nitroso compound (42) from Ascoclavulina sakaii. Their structures were established by a combination of high-resolution NMR, CD spectra, X-ray crystallogaraphic analysis and chemical transformations. Compounds 2, 3 and 18 completely inhibited germination of the root of rice in husk at 5ppm. Bioassays for the other compounds are in progress.
