Description
The purpose of this paper is to make clear the actual conditions of the raising funds of Japanese electric power industry from 1919 to 1938. In prewar Japan, the electric power industry contributing to its economic growth through a number of channels was one of the most important industrial sections. Besides, the electric power industry had raised the greatest social funds among all sections. The study to examine the mechanism of raising funds of the electric power industry is, therefore, significant in the analysis of prewar Japanese capitalism. This paper is the sequel to my another paper titled The Raising Funds of Japanese Electric Power Industry (1883-1918). In that paper I have already pointed out that the industry had mainly raised funds by issuing stocks before 1918. In this paper I attached importance to two types of transitions in the system of raising funds of Japanese electric power industry after 1919. The first is the transition from stocks to bonds which occurred in the 1920s. The second is that from external funds to internal funds which occurred in the 1930s.
