The Japanese Charts No.1065 "Tokyo" (1/11,000), No.1155 "Niigata Ko, Inner Harbour" (1/15,000 and 1/7,500), No.90 "Tokyo Kaiwan" (1/100,000) and No.159 "Hi-no-Misaki to Saruyama Misaki" (1/500,000) have been experimentally revised by the author, based on the following new ideas: 1. That larger scale charts are to be used solely for navigation. 2. That smaller scale sharts are to be for the mariner's exclusive use, showing detailed information on bars, shoals, etc. in the offing. 3. That those objects, which can only be charted with such less accuracy that they are undesirable for navigational use, are to be omitted. 4. That the hydrography of the area already shown on a larger scale chart is to be omitted from the smaller scale chart including the area.
