Description
In 2007, which is the 140th anniversary of the port's opening, "KOBE Biennale" was conducted as a new attempt to further promote arts and culture and make Kobe city even more lively and active. This arts festival is a project implemented with the goal to make "a city that creates culture," starting with challenges toward the development of arts, arts event, community, and human resources. Behind the project is a concept of making the best use of regional cultural power in the creation of such a city. Towards this end, we aimed to create "arts" from a reevaluation of the concept of "region", and the "region" from a re-recognition of "art" activities. "KOBE Biennale" therefore is a new style of general arts festival that started the creation of Kobe's city image and arts and culture through the re-recognition and reevaluation of Kobe's uniqueness. As such, Looking back on the process to KOBE Biennale project, I would like to review this event from the viewpoint of the ideas that were presented initially for this art project, and look into the results of the expected effect.
