Abstract

<p>The purpose of this research is to demonstrate clearly both possibilities and problems of the future university physical education,by examining university physical education taught with the purposes of ”developing problem solving abilities” and ”obtaining a broader point of view” and by examining learning outcomes of participants. Flagfootball was used for this purpose.</p><p>Students in two universities who chose physical education examined the following by themselves:</p><p>1)the characteristics of flagfootball,</p><p>2)whether or not flagfootball is a kind of sport which people who are not keen on sport can excel in,</p><p>3)the effectiveness of a teaching style of offering students opportunities to work with fellow students from different institutions in university physical education.</p><p>This research attempted to establish university physical education as a part of general education,which was different from the traditional framework of ”health”,”sanitary education” and ”motivation for lifelong sports”. It was also an attempt to widen the possibilities of university physical education.</p><p>Considering the learning outcomes of the participants,university physical education offers numerous possibilities and may help obtain a number of learning outcomes. There is no reason to be pessimistic even if ”health”,”sanitary education” and ”motivation for lifelong sports” are outsourced to sports clubs. If anything,an appropriate view would be to regard it as a chance to explore various possibilities such as ”developing problem solving abilities”,”teaching areas not restricted by the previous approaches” and ”joint projects with other universities”,instead of remaining in the traditional framework/limitations of ”health”,”sanitary education” and ”motivation for lifelong sports”.</p><p>It is possible for university physical education to obtain appropriate learning outcomes as a part of general education.</p>
