Description

Physico-chemical studies on the preferred conformations of valeranone (Ia) and its derivatives (Ib, Ic, and Id) at room temperature have demonstrated that they are related to the two-chair form (VII, XI), which shows a strong negative Cotton effect, but suffers slight deformations causing positive contributions to the Cotton effect.
