In Koiji yukashiki taisho, two central characters appear. One is koiji, the heir of kanpaku sadaijin (the minister who is in power) and the other is Hayama, the elder son of Tonase Nyudo. Of these two, Hayama is more suitable for hero than koiji, because Hayama has absolute brightness in his appearance though Koiji lacks it, and Tonase Nyudo is the person who was defeated in the struggle over the throne and fell to the subject, so Hayama is potentially avenger-to-be. But the narrator asserts that the hero of this story is Koiji. The author relates this curious phenomenon with the position of Tonase Nyudo who supervises Koiji and Hayama, and demonstrates that Tonase Nyudo is the symbol of the paternal rights as the law.
