Description
<p>In order to obtain the safety data of liquefied dimethyl ether (DME), which is planned to be utilized in a large scale transportation and storage in the future, a field experiment to study the combustion properties of liquefied DME by using a large scale pool was undertaken. A burning pan of stainless steel, 5 m in diameter and 0.3 m in depth was used. The flame size, the burning velocity and radiant heat flux etc. were measured, and the characteristic data of the pool flame of DME were investigated. In addition, a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) which properties are similar to DME was used and measured the combustion properties, and we analyzed the hazards of liquefied DME compared with LPG. Moreover, we conducted flame extinguishing test by water and form extinguisher. The flame was controlled by foam extinguisher though the fire could not be extinguished completely.</p>
