Abstract

Effect of air velodty on minimum energy requiremeats for spark ignltion andθame propagation characteristics of Howing dust-air mixtures was examined for4.2cm diameter horizontal tube of a dust-collecting system,in which fairly uniform dust Hows were established, Increase in air velocity between 10 and 35m/s markedly ele▽ated the minimum requirements of ignltion energy of Howing dust-air mixtures for cork dust and the ABS-resin powder, and narrowed the spark ignitability limits, The flames accelerated upon ignition, and the maximum peak Hame front velocities of about 110 to 180m/s Were attained for down.ward propagation,Beyond the maximum speed, the Hame decelerated,or was extinguished on its path. These phenomena on the Hame propagation in the small tube were tentatively and qualitatively explained by the combined effect ofturbulent mixing and the dynamic increase in dust concentration immediately before the flame.
