The effect of various constant potentials in the range from -0.75 to -1.15V vs. Cu/CuSO4 on the protection of buried pipe and the influence of interrupting the protective current on the corrosion of buried pipe, in which the protective current for the potential of -0.85V has been interrupted every ten days for the period of either one day, three days and/or ten days, have been studied in two kinds of soils; marine clay and sand. These two tests have been performed for six months in total. The results are as follows: (1) At less noble potential than -0.85V, the corrosion rates obtained from weight loss of the pipes buried in both soils were less than 10μm/y. (2) The effective periods for the protection of the pipe during off potential have been three days in both soils.
