Abstract

Copper/Brass automotive radiators, which was given birth along with auto-vehicles, have remarkably enhanced performance, that is regarded as the results of recent technical development in both material and designing sides. Within auto-vehicles and their components, radiators are exposed to special and severe environmental conditions such as large temperature cycling as well as salts and exhausted gases direct to outer surfaces and coolants to inner surfaces. In this paper, delineated is the status quo on major corrosion phenomena and their relating factors, their testing methods and material improvements as follows; (1) Dezincification of brass tube and its prevention by modified brasses. (2) Stress corrosion cracking of brass and its prevention. (3) Salt corrosion of high-copper fin and its prevention. (4) Solder corrosion.
