Description
In the previous paper, it was reported that the erosion damage of commercially pure iron in the silica sand-hydrochloric acid solution slurry was accelerated by the corrosion, on the contrary, the corrosion damage was inhibited by the erosion. In this study the causes of the acceleration and that of the inhibition were elucidated by observing the behavior of a single crater which was created on the specimen surface by the impact of the projectile with the columnar head of 4mm diameter. As a result, it has been made clear that the corrosion promotes erosion by dissolving the work-hardened layer on the specimen surface as well as roughening the surface, which together cause the deeper intrusion of the projectiles. On the other hand, the erosion inhibits corrosion by making the fibrous structure on the bottom surface of craters on which cristal planes of an inferior dissolving rate are arranged.
