Abstract

Results of quantitative analysis of Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, V, and W in iron-steel standard samples are presented. The homogeneous samples are rotated in a chamber, whose pressure is controlled to be 1 Torr or thereabouts, so as to obtain uniformity in the shape and emission intensity of the plasma during the successive bombardment (10 Hz) of the laser light (8 mJ, 6 ns). By scanning the wavelength of a monochromator (1 Å/min) under the successive production of the plasma, the emission spectrum is directly recorded on a chart. In contrast to the conventional laser microprobe spectrochemical analysis, it is demonstrated that the plasma gives quite linear relationship between the intensity of the emission line and the content of the elements.
