Impedance diagrams of Fe-10 Cr alloy have been measured in the potential range from the active state to the passive state in pH 3.0, 0.5kmol·m-3 Na2SO4 at temperatures between 25°C and 285°C. There was clear distinction in the passivation behavior of the alloy between temperatures above and below 150°C. That is, the passivation becomes more difficult with increasing temperature up to 150°C, whereas it dose easier beyond 150°C. No passivation occurred at 150°C. An impedance diagram for the alloy in the middle of passivation was found to be basically composed of four semicircles; two of them are capacitive, the others inductive. Among these semicircles, the capacitive one which appears in the low frequency range of 0.01-1Hz in the diagram is thought that it arises from a passivation reaction. The degree of proceeding of the passivation with increasing potential can be evaluated from the vicissitudes of these semicircles, especially from that of the capacitive one. With increasing temperature above 200°C, the capacitive one became dominant in diagrams obtained at around corrosion potentials. Therefore, the occurrence of selfpassivation is presumed in the solution above 200°C.
