Description

The noise reduction of the diesel engine has one of the highest priorities for the noise pollution problems in order to maintain the amenity of environment. It is necessary to elucidate the noise generating mechanism for reducing the diesel engine noise. The extraction of the combustion noise and the piston slap noise from the total engine noise was experimentally carried out for a single cylinder diesel engine. Signal processing was performed focusing the short delay of the piston slap impact from the start of the combustion impact. The linear model for the engine noise generation was applied to noise analysis for two different periods around the combustion top dead center. The combustion noise and the piston slap noise were extracted from the engine noise and it was clarified that the combustion noise was estimated by introducing the transmission radiation coefficient. The result of the extraction was similar to the result of the time frequency analysis by using the wavelet transformation.
