説明
Pivampicillin was administered orally in rat and rabbit, and hematological tests were conducted. As a control, ampicillin was administered in one group ; and another group was untreated. Each group of rats were sacrificed by venesection in the course of days, and the same rabbit was repeatedly studied in the course of days.
In groups of rats given pivampicillin or ampicillin, no remarkable change was seen in the red blood cell series. In the white blood cell series, only transient leukocytosis due lymphocytosis was noted in both groups. No remarkable changes were seen in the platelet count. In rabbit, no remarkable changes were seen in the red blood cell system, except that reticulocyte % tended to decrease in some cases, probably representing measurement error or non-specific changes. No definite tendency toward changes of total WBC, neutrophils or lymphocytes was noted. No remarkable change of platelet count was noted.
In the bone marrow picture of rabbits, an increase of neutrophils was noted in so me animals. In a few animals, a tendency to decrease red blood cell series was noted ; but this was not considered to be significant.
In rabbits, oral administration of pivampicillin or ampicillin in especially large dose causes changes of intestinal flora, frequently inducing soft stools. Ill-defined changes of the WBC series might be due to such changes in the digestive system.
No case was observed to cause hematological abnormalities by oral administration of ampicillin, so far as the above animal experiments concern.
