Abstract

Cefotetan (CTT, YM 09330) was studied in 9 cases of surgical field including 4 cases of infectious cholangitis, each 2 cases of pneumonia and intraabdominal abscess and one case of postoperative wound infection and administered 0.5g or 1.0g twice a day for 4-10 days. The results were good in 8 cases, poor in 1 case with effective rate of 88.9%.<BR>Bacteriological effects with 11 strains in 8 species were as follows; 2 strains of E. coli, each one strain of Klebsiella, H. influenzae, S. epidermidis, α-Streptococcus, Citrobacter and S. paratyphi were eradicated and 1 strain of E. coli decreased but 2 strains of Pseudomonas persisted.<BR>No side effects were observed, and in laboratory findings, no abnormal elevations of transaminase, BUN and creatinine were found.<BR>Thus, cefotetan will be useful drug against infectious diseases in the surgical field.
