Abstract
After the oral administration of 0.5g Cefroxadine (CGP-9000, CXD) to patients with various renal failures, the serum levels of this antibiotic were measured. As the degree of renal impairment increased, both the peak serum levels and the delay in the decrease of serum levels increased.
To the patient with mild renal failure (Ccr 60ml/min.), CXD should be administered as same as to the patient with no renal failures; to the patient with severe renal failure (Ccr 20ml/min.), it may be given twice a day; and to the uremic patient, once a day.
Twelve (12) patients were treated with CXD 8 suffered from respiratory tract infections, and, 4 from urinary tract infection. The clinical effect of this antibiotic therapy was rated as excellent or good in 10 cases, as fair in 1, and as poor in 1
No side-effects were recognized except for mild glossitis in only one case. No laboratory abnormalities were encountered.
