Description

Cefozopran, a newly developed injectable cephalosporin, was studied fundamentally and clinically. As a result of sensitivity test of clinical isolates to this drug, the drug showed excellent antimicrobial activity against gram-negative bacilli such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli, which was almost equivalent to that of ceftazidime and imipenem. This drug was administered to 3 patients with pneumonia and, one patient with pulmonary emphysema associated with infection. The drug was markedly effective in 3 and slightly effective in 1. Slight elevations of GOT and GPT were observed in one patient, but their relation to this drug was unknown.
