Abstract

In the previous paper, a new type of seismic base isolator consisting of rubber bearings and ball screw-type dampers with magnetic damping was proposed, and the earthquake responses of a 7-story building isolated by this isolator were calculated. As a result, it was shown that this isolator was effective for Suppressing the relative displacement in the base of the building by the working of the ball screw-type damper. The adjusting conditions of the isolator, however, were obtained by trial and error in the previous paper. In this paper, the adjusting conditions are determined theoretically and the effect of vibration isolation of the isolator is confirmed experimentally. The earth-quake responses of the building isolated by the isolator with optimum conditions are also calculated and compared with those of the nonisolated building.
