Catalytic properties of the K-promoted ultrafine particles (UFP) of Fe for liquid phase Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis were investigated at a high temperature (300°C). Activity of the promoted Fe UFP catalyst remarkably increased with time on stream, as contrasted with deactivation of the unpromoted Fe UFP catalyst and an ordinary K-promoted Fe precipitation catalyst. It is deduced that enhancement of the activity of K-promoted Fe UFP catalyst is attributed to formation of iron carbide having low crystallinity. Furthermore, selectivity of K-promoted Fe UFP catalyst for hydrocarbons in the liquid fraction was fairly high even at such a high temperature. Carbon number distribution of hydrocarbon products was analyzed in terms of a dual-site model.
