説明

For effective utilization of carbon dioxide, catalytic activity of various solid catalysts for the formation of carbonyl sulfide (COS) from carbon dioxide (CO2) and carbon disulfide (CS2) was examined by use of a conventional flow reactor at 300°C. Some metal oxides showed catalytic activity for the formation of COS in the order(Table 1):
Al2O3>CuO>TiO2>ZnO>Fe2O3, V2O5>
Cr2O3, SnO2>MnO2, NiO, CaO>CoO>
MoO3, WO3>BaO
However, their metal sulfides and some metal carbonates such as CaCO3, BaCO3 were inactive.
The formation of COS over an alumina catalyst, which showed the highest and most stable activity, proceeded according to the pseudo-first order kinetics with respect to CS2 partial pressure with an apparent activation energy of 8.6kcal/mol (Fig. 1).
The catalytic activity of metal sulfides for decomposition of COS was examined at 400°C. The mixture of carbon dioxide and carbonyl sulfide formed in the first reactor was used as the reactant for the second reactor. Some metal sulfides showed catalytic activity for formation of carbon monoxide, and the order of their activity was as follows (Table 2):
FeS, NiS>CoS>MoS2>CuS>BaS>
CdS, CaS>Ag2S
The catalytic activity of the metal sulfides decreased with the process time (Fig. 2).
The possibility of CO production by decomposition of COS, which is formed from CO2 and CS2 over a metal oxide catalyst, was proposed. The role of active sites in the COS formation over a metal oxide catalyst was discussed.
