説明

This paper deals with the determination of vapor-liquid ratio (V/L) of motor gasolines and the vapor lock field tests with two Japanese passenger cars.
The V/L was determined by the modified CRC apparatus, which allows mechanical stirring at any stirring length. Both the repeatability and the agreement with the theoretical values for hydrocarbon blends were satisfactory. The V/L estimation method using inspection data, which had been developed by Aldrich et al., proved to be useful for Japanese gasolines.
The field tests were carried out at Misaka Pass (altitude 860∼1, 300m) and at Mt. Fuji climbing road (altitude 920∼1, 450m). The critical V/L remarkably varied with the operating conditions between the maximum of 50 and the minimum of 10. The start-after-idling condition gave higher critical V/L's than the steady speed climbing condition. However, the former condition was more severe than the latter for most fuels, except for low V/L-temperature slope fuels, because of higher fuel pump temperatures in the former condition. These results suggested the necessity of two V/L values (high and low) in the control of vapor locking tendency of motor gasolines.
